Paul Morphy wrote a chess column called "Chess Department, conducted by Paul Morphy" in the New York Ledger from August 6, 1859 until August 4, 1860.

In this video, we introduce the players and the games that he will be commentating on. The 1834 matches between Louis-Charles Mahé de La Bourdonnais and Alexander McDonnell, which are sometimes seen as the first unofficial World Chess Championship competition before the title existed.
