Trigger Warning | Part 12 | Father Wounds | Pastor Jason Henderson

(Focus on the Family) Kids who grow up without a dad are more likely to:
• Have behavioral problems
• Drop out of school
• Face depression, anxiety, or other mental health issues
• Struggle financially
• Become sexually promiscuous and/or face teenage pregnancy
• Use drugs and alcohol
• Become aggressive or violent
• Leave their own children when they become parents.

There Are Five Kinds Of Fathers
1. Tragic Father
2. Terrible Father
3. Tough Fathe
4. Tender Father
5. Terrific Father

The Damage Of Father Wounds
1. Fear
2. Immaturity
1 Corinthians 13:11
3. Rebellion
4. Selfishness
5. Warped View of God
6. Distrust in Other Men

The Absalom Spirit
This spirit is when a father wound is left untreated, it creates bitterness in our hearts. In turn, gives Satan a doorway to rebel against the fatherly authority of our home, church.
2 Samuel 13-15; 18-19; 1 Kings 15
-Absalom was a handsome son of King David. (David had many sons.)
-His sister Tamar was beautiful and was sexually assaulted by her half-brother Amnon.
-After the assault, King David did nothing for two years after the assault of Absalom’s sister. Absalom went and got his half-brother drunk and killed him.
-Fearing for his life Absalom fled into hiding and exile for 3 years, after 3 years Absalom was called back to King David and asked to be a general in his armies.
NOTE: Did did not address any issues and problems. He just ignored them.
-With the father wound untreated, Absalom began to work behind his father’s back and
undermine his authority as King.
-He assures the men that if he was king he would rule them better than his father.
-He would spend his days at the city gate meeting and wooing others.
-2 Samuel 15:5-6
-When Absalom overthrew his father David, it was literally no contest. -Absalom’s advisors told him to send 12,000 troops to destroy his Father.
-Absalom’s bitterness towards his Father was so deep that he decided to lead the charge himself.
-This bitterness and pride gave David enough time to respond and routed the resistance of Absalom
Absalom was left running for his life on a donkey. As he was leaving his long beautiful hair was caught in the thicket and hung him.
The Absalom Spirit compels men and sometimes women, to believe that if they were in a position of highest authority that they would do a better job of defending and caring for the needy. As a result, they form an unholy alliance to overthrow the governing authority.
This spirit mirror exactly what Satan has done in heaven. He became bitter and envious of the Lord. He rebelled against the Lord’s authority. He was able to persuade at least one-third of the angels to help him rebel. His pride and beauty lead to his demise.
At the end of the Old Testament, God was sending a forerunner, John the Baptist to preach. Here is the message;
Malachi 4:5-6

Winning the war starts with changing the hearts of men. How To Heal Our Father Wounds
1. Forgive your earthly father for his failures. John 14:18
This will remove the demonic foothold who has failed you.
This will release your bitterness in your heart towards failed leadership This will rename you from Orphan to Child
2. Deepen your walk with your heavenly Father Galatians 4:4-7
