Christiani: literally means “belonging to the party of” These people manifested everything Jesus.

A True Disciple Of Jesus Snubs All Threats From People Who Lie (v. 26)

John 15:20

Expect the world to reject and hate you.

A True Disciple Of Jesus Surrenders Their Fear To Jesus’ Authority (vv. 27-31)

Are you confident on the Lord’s care of you?

Do you really think the world can “take better care of you?”

A True Disciple Of Jesus Stands Up And Is Counted As A Follower Of Jesus (vv. 32-33)

When the pressure is on, the temperature is rising, a follower of Jesus will not bail.

“You can always tell who your true friends are in a crisis, fake friends leave while your true friends rush in.”

A True Disciple Of Jesus Sets Their Loyalty And Love Of Jesus Before All Others (vv. 34-39)

The sword of the gospel has been drawn, will there be any soldiers of Christ to wield it?

Missionary Henry Martyn

After a long and difficult time serving as a missionary in India, God called Henry to Persia, Modern Day Iran. God laid upon his heart to translate the New Testament and Psalms into the Persian language. He studied and translated the entire New Testament and Psalms in nine months.

He learned that he could print or circulate it until he received permission from the Shah. He traveled 600 miles to Tehran and was denied permission to speak to the Shah. He then turned around and traveled 400 mile to the nearest British embassy, who the ambassador gave him the proper papers and letters of introduction. He then traveled back 400 miles to Tehran and was granted permission from the Shah to print and circulate. He did this all while suffering from tuberculosis and in 1812. He did the whole trip on the back of a mule, traveling at night, resting in the day. Ten days after receiving permission to print, he passed away at the old age of 31.

He knew he was dying. He reached Tokat on 16 October 1812, and penned his last words:

Oh, when shall time give place to Eternity? When shall appear that new Heaven and new Earth wherein dwelleth righteousness! ‘No horse being to be had, I had an unexpected repose. I sat in the orchard, and thought with sweet comfort and peace of my God, in solitude, my company, my Friend and Comforter. Oh, when shall time give place to Eternity? When shall appear that new Heaven and new Earth wherein dwelleth righteousness! There, there shall no wise enter in anything that defileth; none of that wickedness which has made men worse than beasts – none of those corruptions which add still more to the miseries of mortality, shall be seen or heard of any more.’

This is what a disciple looks like.

Stop asking God to give you an easy life, instead ask God to give you a life to make a difference in the world for HIm.
