The Timing: The festival is in the month Ethanim, which is the seventh month.

The Festival of Shelters began on the fifteenth day of the seventh month of the ancient Hebrew lunar calendar. (Leviticus 23:33-44)

This day occurred in late September, October, or early November.

The Feast of Tabernacles is also called ‘Sukkot’ which is the Hebrew word for ‘booths’ or ‘tents’. The Jewish people constructed makeshift tents, just as the Israelites while roaming in the desert, for the feast to commemorate their liberation from Egypt by the hand of God. This joyful holiday is a recognition of God's salvation, shelter, provision, and trustworthiness. The Feast of Tabernacles is a 7-day autumn celebration honoring the 40-year pilgrimage of the Israelites in the desert. Along with Passover and the Festival of Weeks, Sukkot is one of three notable pilgrimage feasts found in the Bible when all Jewish men were expected to come before the Lord in the Temple in Jerusalem.

The Cloud: The cloud represents the presence of God with his people.

God had come into the temple.

The cloud that led and protected the Israelites throughout the wilderness has come to the temple.

What makes the temple a temple, sanctuary a sanctuary? It is the presence of God.

How Do We Find Ourselves In God Presence?

We prepare ourselves before we enter His house.

The Levites and priests prepared themselves for worship

We Participate with our hearts and minds before the Lord.

We participate because God deserves it.

Psalm 100:4-5

We Patiently follow his leading

Genesis 16-17

We Persistently expect God to move

The power never comes until we spent time with Him in his presence.
