Prisoner swap pilot finally back with family after 12 years in US jail
Russian pilot Konstantin Yaroshenko has been reunited with his family after a prisoner swap with the US on Wednesday. Yaroshenko was freed in exchange for former US Marine Trevor Reed, and had been in US custody for 12 years.
The swap took place in Turkey, with Yaroshenko arriving in Sochi then finally Moscow, where his wife and daughter were eagerly waiting on the tarmac.
Russia had proposed a prisoner swap for Yaroshenko in July 2019, after the pilot was arrested by US special forces in Liberia in 2010, on smuggling charges. Moscow agreed to release Reed, convicted in 2019 of endangering the lives of two police officers while drunk.
