We could probably get him at a discount...

Making an appearance on Fox News’s The Five, Tucker Carlson was treated to some jokes cracked by Greg Gutfeld at the expense of former Fox News host Chris Wallace, as Wallace had left Fox News last year to join CNN’s streaming service that failed within its first month.

We at Red Voice Media reported earlier in April that in just over three weeks after launching, CNN announced that at the end of April, CNN+ would be officially shutting down.

CNN+ was arguably an endeavor doomed to fail, considering that it was a for-pay streaming service based upon a news network that struggles to compete with outlets like Fox News – and that’s when the CNN content is free. But for reasons unknown, CNN harbored an undue amount of confidence in the project.

After some heavy marketing of the platform going as far back as the summer of 2021, three weeks into CNN+’s launch, the platform had managed to attract a mere 150,000 subscribers. Meaning, that from a numbers perspective, CNN+ was generating approximately $900,000 a month in revenue.

For the sake of context, CNN had planned on investing $1 billion into CNN+ with the optimistic prediction that the streaming service would become profitable within four years of launching. Clearly, those first month numbers created a forecast of that not ever happening.

But in December of 2021, months before CNN+ launched and failed, Wallace decided to ditch Fox News, saying at the time that he was “thrilled to join CNN+.” And in the days leading up to CNN+ first going live, Wallace even bad-mouthed his former employer, saying he “no longer felt comfortable with the programming at Fox.”

Obviously, with CNN+ coming to a close, so Wallace’s program on the streaming service.

Gutfeld managed to use the circumstances as a means to take some jabs at his former Fox News colleague, asking Carlson whether there have been any conversations within Fox’s relatively successful streaming service to give Wallace a home in the wake of CNN+ failing within a month of its launch.

“Uh, hey Tucker, I’ve got two questions for you. Number one, quite obviously, you’re on Fox Nation. This is special. Fox Nation is a streaming success – now that CNN+ is defunct, has Fox Nation considered rehiring Chris Wallace for Fox Nation? We could probably get him at a discount. And I see that he interviews a lot of interesting people. That’s my first question. My second…”

Carlson quickly interjected, saying the notion had already been brought up to him earlier.

“We had a meeting about it this morning in my office…and I was like, ‘No, he just failed.’ And one of my producers goes, ‘He’s Mike Wallace’s son.’ What? Done. He’s got to be good.”
