About Reinette:

In 1994, I crossed Alaska alone. It would be during this isolated winter solo trek, which I filmed for National Geographic, that I learned, of all things, the power of community. Ultimately, lessons learned along the trail would become the catalyst for my community work later in life.
For the last 16 years, I have applied many lessons learned along the trail and focused on building my hometown of Nevada City, California as a more successful and resilient community. Through risk assessment, public outreach, and a daily hands-on / hard work ethic, I’ve been at the forefront of supporting Nevada City and our surrounding areas to prepare for a much more challenging and unpredictable future, as council member, mayor and community activist.
It was during the summer of 2020, I stepped down from my third term on the city council because I saw a deep need for leadership at a much larger scale than I could provide in my little town. The people of this state are pleading for trustworthy, common-sense leadership. I am running for governor of California because I am uniquely called in this time of extreme and interwoven challenges.
First and foremost, I am a truth-teller; even when the truths are hard. Right now we have some real hard truths that we have to deal with as a state because of massive failures of leadership. I will always ask the hard questions, even when it means making enemies.
I believe in leadership and representative government that support the inherent wisdom of our people, communities and businesses. My job — and the job of all members of government — is to facilitate and focus our collective wisdom to clear the path so that everyone in our state has the chance to thrive. That is not happening and has not happened in California for some time.
I am also a listener and a life-long learner who always brings the most capable and effective people to the table to accomplish whatever task is at hand. I know what I don’t know. The process of building the best team ever is already in the works with this very campaign.
I’ve been working-class my whole life. I’ve been a videographer, motivational speaker, storyteller, painted houses, commercial fished in Alaska, trained Iditarod sled dogs, nannied, owned a cellular phone store and restaurant, and my community work has been 100% volunteer and unpaid. I have also managed multiple highly complex organizational, political and planning challenges. Translating that experience to statewide work and the governor's office is fundamentally a matter of scaling up – and that is another thing that I’ve got a lot of experience doing.
