This documentary Dispatches: Chechnya -- The Dirty War follows Mariusz Pilis and Marcin Mamon, two reporters, as they travel to Chechnya to get the real story. At the time of their travels, Chechnya was considered one of the most dangerous places in the world. Pilis and Mamon spent nine months investigating and filming the situation in war-torn Chechnya.

After years of combat in Chechnya, the government in Moscow continued to prevent media correspondence from telling the true story of the conflict. In fact, any contact with Chechen resistance forces were considered to be illegal. Human Rights Watch reported in 2004 that some 1,700 individuals had thus far disappeared without a trace in Chechnya and that illegal killing was a common occurrence.
