Donbass: Battle for Debaltsevo

The fiercest fighting between militias and Ukrainian troops unfolded at Debaltsevo in the summer of 2014, and after a temporary lull continued in the winter of 2015.

Secret documents provided by former Ukrainian security officer Vasily Prozorov show Kiev never intended to negotiate with southeastern Ukraine. So it is no coincidence the government hastened the start of an anti-terrorist operation. Realising what was coming, the rebellious regions created self-defence units - the militia of Donbass.
