Practically DRIPPING OIL!? The La Flor Dominicana Cabinet #5 - CIGAR REVIEWS by CigarScore

When it comes to cigars, is oily a good thing? And, if so, is oilier better? That's how todays' cigar, the La Flor Dominicana Cabinet No 5 Maduro Toro was described to me – “practically dripping in oil!”

Visually, the LFD Cabinet #5 did appear very oily. The cigar practically shone and there was a little oily residue that remained on my fingers. That same oily United States Connecticut broadleaf maduro wrapper also gave up the aromas that were leathery and musty.

While cutting the cigar was somewhat difficult, as soon as the Cabinet No 5 was lit, the aromas were fantastic and I could taste the Connecticut Broadleaf from the first puff.

Through the middle of the cigar, the draw was perfect and the overall construction was really good.

Regarding the flavors, there seems to be a clash between the broadleaf wrapper and the Dominican binder and fillers. Instead of a nice blending, they seem to be fighting for dominance. The wrapper seemed just a tad harsh and unrefined, and I wished that the Dominican tobaccos offered a richer molasses flavor than they did.

Final Thoughts

For the most part, the La Flor Dominicana Cabinet No 5 Maduro Toro I smoked was perfect. The burn was almost perfect, the draw was great, and the smoke time was worth the price.

However, the flavors could've been a little better. The United States Connecticut Broadleaf totally overshadowed the Dominican tobaccos in this cigar. Perhaps, with some additional aging, this cigar could have a nice blend of flavors instead of two separate experiences fighting for dominance.

This is a strong and bold cigar. If that's what you're looking for, then I think you'll like this stick. While I think a little aging would benefit the flavors on this stick, overall, it's quite good. So, the La Flor Dominicana Cabinet No 5 Maduro Toro earns a CigarScore 5.
