Before there were outrageously priced “premium” or “boutique” cigars, there was the classic, solid performing Diamond Crown Maximus Toro No. 4. If you want a great luxury cigar at a reasonable price, look no further than the Diamon Crown line from J.C. Newman. Or, so I suspect.

The Diamond Crown Maximus Toro No. 4 is a great-looking cigar with a nice wrapper. The veins were thing and well-dehumidified, and there was almost an oily sheen on the cigar when I took it out of the cellophane.

After cutting the end, the cold draw flavors had lots of fresh cedar, spice, and some creaminess with hints of leather. The Diamond Crown also had the perfect amount of draw resistance.

Filled with tobaccos from both the Fuente and Oliva farms, the Diamond Crown Maximus Toro No. 4 should be a fantastic smoke. Let's continue!

Final Thoughts

After just over an hour with the Diamond Crown Maximus Toro No. 4, I'd say it's a good cigar, but not a great one. For the price and vitola, this cigar should have lasted longer than it did.

Additionally, and despite having 5-year-old tobacco in this cigar, this one had flavors that were a little sour, unfermented-esque, and a little harsh in the final third. Combine these factors with an uneven burn, and you have a cigar that was good, but not great.

This one had a good draw, a couple of burn issues, and good flavors up until the final third. So, the Diamond Crown Maximus Toro No. 4 earns a CigarScore 4.
