Thank you for visiting Modern Homestead Alaska.

We are a family on a journey to “modern” Homesteading in Alaska. Follow our journey as we learn along the way.

The following tips are included in this video. Things we have done on our many moves around the lower 48.

Tip 1: Pack Furniture with items from the room it’s moving into. Example: Fill the dresser with clothing and decorations from the bedroom.
Tip 2: Do NOT Move anything empty. Example: Fill big pots with kitchen breakables.
Tip 3: Do NOT move 2 items when you can move 1. Example: move spices into jars you are already taking and toss the old containers you will not keep later.
Tip 4: Repurpose items for packing and storage. Get creative and use what you have.
Tip 5: Move NON-Breakable items in something you can use right away.
Tip 6: Repackage items how they would have been by the manufacturer. (They know what they are doing it’s been tested)
Tip 7: Package long and short storage to keep bugs and critters out!
Tip 8: LABEL, LABEL, LABEL!!! Don’t guess when you get where you are going what’s in the mystery box!
Tip 9: Know before you move where every time item you pack is going to go! Don’t move some day I might want or need this!
Tip 10: Pay for packing Materials NOW! Or pay big to replace valuables later!

We have much more to come!
