What States Will Honor My Permit?

There are many US states that will honor a concealed carry permit from another US state. Some states have entered into agreements to recognize concealed carry permits from states they have formally signed a reciprocity agreement with. There are also states (California, New York, Maryland...) that will not honor any concealed carry permit from another state and in effect ban the carry of handguns by non-residents visiting their state.

Across the United States reciprocity laws vary widely from state to state requiring close attention if a person wants to travel interstate. Federal law does protect individuals traveling across a state with a firearm if they do not have a permit to carry in the state, but only if strict guidelines are followed.

The History of Concealed Carry in the United States

Carrying a gun is as American as apple pie for those of us that do it. We are blessed to live in the only nation on this earth that truly honors this essential liberty, at least in most places. Americans have been heavily armed since the inception of our nation, and even before. The European settlers who first set foot on this soil were heavily armed with the firearms of the day. The Native American tribes already on the continent quickly adopted firearms technology as well. We are a gun people, despite what some political factions try to claim.

However, the legal carry of concealed handguns while in public is actually a comparatively new phenomenon. This trend has been driven by a number of factors. Civil unrest and terrorist events in the past two decades have had a profound influence on the mindset of the public and many have realized that local, state, and federal government is unable to protect the masses when disaster strikes

What Everyone Must Know About Concealed Carry

Concealed carry is the practice of carrying a firearm (typically a handgun) on one’s physical person while taking steps to ensure that the presence of the firearm is undetectable to casual (or trained) observers. Concealed carry is often accomplished by securing the firearm in a holster specifically designed to aid concealment underneath everyday clothing.

While there are many ways to practice concealed carry, handguns are generally worn in a holster near someone’s waist, either inside the waistband (“IWB”) or outside the waistband (“OWB”) of the person’s pants or skirt. By covering the firearm with a shirt or blouse and selecting a well-designed concealed carry holster, it is possible to minimize or eliminate the outline of the firearm through someone’s clothes. When the shape of a firearm is visible underneath clothing, it is referred to as “printing.” Minimizing or eliminating printing is one of the primary goals of people who conceal carry.

Second Amendment: Last Line of Defense Against Tyranny

The Second Amendment is our last defense against tyranny. The right to keep and bear arms is a doomsday provision to be used as a last resort when all other rights fail. The founders saw firearm ownership as so necessary that they enumerated this right second in the Bill of Rights, immediately after defining the right to free speech.

I know that you know this… I know that you understand the true meaning of the Second Amendment… But the federal government refuses to recognize the true purpose of our right to keep and bear arms!
