Spirit, Soul and Body

When you read the New Testament, you will see many verses that talks about how through faith in Jesus our Lord we have become righteousness of God in Christ, sanctified, redeemed, blessed, cleansed, complete, perfect etc. But then you read other verses such as be holy, sanctify yourself, walk in newness of life, clean yourself, press toward perfection etc. It seems like contradiction but it's not. Actually both are true but the we need to distinguish spirit, soul and body so we can understand this message. God made us in three parts, spirit, soul and body, our spirit is who we are, our soul is our thoughts, emotions, intellect, will. our spirit and soul live in a home called body. When we sinned, our spirit died, it means we became separated from God. when Jesus died for us rose again, we who believed have become righteous, holy, redeemed sanctified in the spirit. so when the Bible says yourself. complete, it talks about your spirit, when it says sanctify yourself or be holy, it talks about our soul.
