How To Tell If Fish Eggs Are Healthy Breeding
The most exciting part of being an aquarist is seeing your pet fish show courtship towards each other, then the next moment later is finding out a mass of eggs in the tank.

They needed to have a clean environment and ideal spawning chemistry through their courtship rituals so your fish could also be interested in breeding.

The Courtship Period
Of course, fish fall in love, too. If you have purposely bought fish of the opposite sex, they would most likely pair up to mate and then spawn. Consider yourself lucky if the fish had given you more offspring, but most cases ended up at least one pair of fish only.

Fish of the opposite sex would flirt and do a little dancing ritual when courting the female, enticing the female to spawn with him. When both of them are ready to spawn, there might be differences in their colors and shapes.

Another indication is when they start to move the sand to another area to groom the place for the arrival of the eggs.

Breeding Strategies
Egg-Laying
Each fish species has its strategies in spawning. But contextually, most of them are egg-layers, and they are scattered and buried and fall to the substrate or stick to plants and present tank decorations.

The eggs would hatch quickly, and the fish’s offspring, called the fry, are their own to survive. Some fish attend to their fry while getting aggressive to other interactions, while some fish don’t.

Mouth-Brooding
Another specialized method is the Mouth-Brooding, where the eggs are carried in the females’ mouth for several days or weeks until hatched. The African Cichlids, for instance, are the example of mouth-brooders.

They would lay their eggs and then suck these fertilized eggs into their mouth. When the fry hatched, the mother fish would suddenly open its mouth and release the fry to swim independently.

How To Know If The Eggs Are Healthy
Determining this matter is crucial because there might be parental fish eating their eggs as their snack. If the eggs turned white, the bigger the chances that these eggs were infertile.

It’s pretty normal for the fish to have some infertile eggs; however, if the number of fertile eggs took time for adjustment, you have to consider help. Check the fish tank water first because this might be the possible cause for non-improvement.

Adjust the water just enough to keep the pair and the sperm.

Eggs are also prone to fungal and bacterial infection, so the water quality should be clean and pristine. If the eggs are healthy, they could turn into a grey mold-like material. To treat them better, treat them with methylene blue treatment.
