We weren't READY! Unplanned goat kid born on the farm!

Look at that smile! There’s never a dull moment around here: one of our does gave us an adorable female kid! This little one (we settled on the name “Juniper”) is a beautiful buckskin doeling and we think she’ll make a nice addition to the farm.

Bonnie, the mom, is a Kiko X Savanna that we obtained from my Aunt Deb and Uncle Tony at Shirley Family Farm in Taylorsville, KY. Bonnie and her brother Clyde are meat goats, but they weren’t brought here for that purpose; we just needed a few more mouths helping keep the weeds at bay. We knew there was a very high likelihood of Bonnie being bred when we put our buck, Benji, in with her, so although this baby was unplanned it was not really unexpected.

Our children Keeton and Riley absolutely adore all the goat kids. As parents we love watching them interact with the goats and they really enjoy helping with the chores as well.

Oh, and did you see the baby chickens that hatched out? We’ve had some broody hens that just won’t give up and one of them managed to hatch our four chicks. We may have a video on that soon (it depends on if there’s enough to talk about, really). Stay tuned!
