Key 73: Winning the Continent for Christ, Again

Key 73 might be described as a 'Christian' blitz. It' is an all-out attempt to evangelize North America in 1973 by capitalizing on the strengths of a coordinated thrust.

Key '73, an Ecumenical project led by Jesuits and Billy Graham and uniting more than one hundred churches and religious groups in the nationwide work of evangelism in 1973. The project was the result of a 1967 interdenominational meeting arranged by Carl F. H. Henry, a Baptist theologian and former editor of Christianity Today. Five years of planning on a cooperative basis and joint activities brought together about 150 denominations ranging from the United Church of Canada, black denominations, Pentecostal and evangelistic organizations, numerous Roman Catholic dioceses and major Protestant church organizations.

“Key 73” and similar evangelical drives such as the “Campus Crusade for Christ” (founder false teacher Chuck Smith). Jesus movement - Its predecessor, the charismatic movement, had already been in full swing for about a decade. It involved mainline Protestants and Roman Catholics who testified to having supernatural experiences. Explo '72 was an event organized by 'Campus Crusade for Christ', held at the Cotton Bowl stadium in Dallas, and involved such conservative leaders as Bill Bright and Billy Graham. It also influenced the development of both the contemporary Christian right and Christian left.
