Hemlo, Ontario Switch Run

It's May, the summer of 2006, and it doesn't get better than this!

A warm breeze spilling through the open window, those fabulous 70's tunes pouring out from the quadraphonic Craig stereo system, and the Great Lakes running past you in mystic, blue waves.

It took 12 straight hours to run from Winnipeg, Manitoba to Hemlo, Ontario, but once there, you'd grab your 8 hours of bunk time in one of Gloria's cozy Motel units, wait for a knock at the door (the driver with the tractor and trailer you'd be switching with), go in for breakfast or lunch or dinner or whatever time it was, then run another 12 straight hours all the way back to Winnipeg.

Yes, a very long, tiring day, a great job in the summer, but treacherous in the winter.
