The reason why cats is doing this is because they want you to go with them!

I think when they do that it might mean they want YOU to follow THEM. Note the little c'mon move in the tail. Probably wants to either show you a fresh kill, or to let you smell something really icky. Maybe a cat or dog is in trouble and help is needed. Something like that.
