Pruning Large Sugar Maple for Narrowness, Acer 'Autumn Flame'

Autumn Flame is a great maple cultivar. This tree is about 30 years old and was becoming wider and wider. I experimented with narrowing the lower 50% of the tree by selectively pruning some of the lower branches. This was successful, but I could only narrow the tree to a limited extend, but still by 15 to 20 feet on each side.
