Low-carb diets have sparked debate for decades.

Some argue that the excessive fat content of these diets raises cholesterol and causes heart disease.
Low-carb diets, on the other hand, have been proven to be healthful and beneficial in the majority of scientific investigations.Studies show that persons who follow a low-carb diet lose weight more quickly than those who follow a low-fat diet, even when the latter is deliberately restricting calories.

This is because low-carb diets allow your body to expel extra water, decreasing insulin levels and causing rapid weight loss in the first week or two. People who restrict their carbs lose 2–3 times as much weight — without being hungry — in trials comparing low-carb and low-fat diets.

In one research of obese adults, a low-carb diet was found to be more effective than a traditional weight loss diet for up to six months. The difference in weight reduction across diets became minor after that.
