Baby chicks on the loose!

One of our hens hatched out four baby chickens and it has been a blast watching them for the past several days. Now that the chicks are about a week old they are getting more adventurous and are exploring outside the coop, never straying very far from mom.

We had four hens (and one guinea) go broody at the same time, and when that happens it is hard to get them out of that mindset. This girl is the only one that’s had success in hatching out a clutch of eggs. We’ve become accustomed to seeing day-old chicks in a store and it has been very refreshing to watch a mother hen interact with her chicks, showing them how to scratch around for food and lead them to and fro around the barn.

In this video we also show the lone guinea keet that we hatched in an incubator 6 weeks ago. He (or she) moved into the coop with the rest of the guineas the day before this video was recorded and while he was still a little skidding he seems to be adjusting well.

We love that our kids get to grow up outdoors and experience this lifestyle. As parents it makes us so happy to see them enjoying it, too. There’s always something happening on the farm and we appreciate you spending some of your time watching this video and our channel. See y’all soon!
