This morning I was reading about the wedding in Cana of Galilee where Jesus and His disciples were invited. When it became known to Jesus mother that the wedding party had no more wine, His mother came to Him saying, "they have no wine." "Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come. His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it."

What really struck me is that His mother did not go to the "governor of the banquet" which should have been the only one she should have gone to. After all It was his duty to take care of all the preparations, and during the feast, he would mingle among the guests and see to it that they lacked nothing, instructing servants to carry out all the necessary details.

Instead after she spoke to the Jesus, she spoke immediately to the servants saying, "Whatsoever He sayeth unto you do it." Then Jesus spoke to the servants telling them to fill the six waterpots with water, and to bear it. Then draw out the wine. Not to the bride or bridegroom or any other honorable guest, but to the ruler of the feast who tasted it first. He did not know where this best wine came from, "but the servants who drew the water knew." After which the ruler of the banquet called the bridegroom and asked him about it. Neither did he know where it came from.

I loved the picture of the behind the scenes action, because the waterpots were kept in the outer courts where the servants were. Everything that happened that day was through nameless obedient servants. They were privileged to be used by the real Bridegroom to do the impossible. When you lose your identity in Christ and work behind the scenes, you will be the one whom the Lord will call and use often. Remember, the governor of the feast did not know where this best wine came from, "but they that drew the water knew." Amen, live to be the water-drawer of His living waters, and pour out to the thirsty, the best wine now. You will always know the will of the Lord and walk in it as the finest of His servants all the days of your life.

"If you simply take the name of Christ upon you and call yourself His servant, yet do not obey Him, but follow your own whim, or your own hereditary prejudice, or the custom of some erroneous church, you are no servant of Christ. If you really are a servant of Christ, your first duty is to obey Him." ~Charles Spurgeon
