Turmeric: Why This Spice is a Powerful Medicine
Have you ever heard about turmeric? If you still don't know its benefits, watch the suggested video to learn more about this powerful root!
Turmeric is known worldwide for its medicinal properties and culinary uses. Also known as curcuma or curcumin, and sometimes called saffron, this plant belongs to the Zingiberaceae family, the same as ginger. Did you know that?
Originally from India and Southeast Asia, this plant is, many times, confused with Crocus sativus, which is known as saffron or true saffron. This mix up happens because both plants have yellow pigments.
The true saffron, however, has a more intense aroma and colors and is more expensive. It is believed that turmeric has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial, antispasmodic, antifungal, antiviral, and neuroprotective properties, and much more.
