Using an eraser to remove SOME, but certainly not all, of the graphite build up. You do not want to remove it all as it does fill in any gaps and pits that may have been created over time. Just give it a general rubbing to see if there is any damage mostly. Graphite is highly conductive, so there is no real need to remove it 100%.
