GOD of the gaps, OOPS! SCIENTISM of the gaps!

Christians are sometimes accused of the ‘God of the Gaps’ fallacy. This is when someone explains something away by pointing to God, for example, Question: “Why was there a lightning strike?” Answer: “God.” As our scientific knowledge has grown, so too has naturalistic explanations for things. In contrast, naturalists are occasionally guilty of a ‘Scientism of the gaps’ fallacy. An example of this might be, Question: “How did the first life form come into existence?”, Answer: “We don’t know, but someday science will explain it.”
