The Hunga-Tonga-Hunga-Haapai submarine volcano in Polynesia, erupting for 3 weeks, threw a column of ash to a height of nearly 17 kilometers. Authorities in the Kingdom of Tonga have urged residents of surrounding islands to temporarily shut down their rainwater harvesting systems as harmful particles can enter them.
The volcanic eruption began on December 20. Initially, the volcano was "heating up", but now it has demonstrated its power. At the same time, the land area increased by another 500-600 meters.
The wind blew the ashes east and north. Acid rain, which experts warned against, was not recorded.
