How Marijuana Views Have Changed Over The Years
Marijuana propaganda of the 20th century has been proven to be lies by two extensive decades of research. We now know it’s less harmful, less addictive, and more medically useful than we were led to believe. What gives? Once upon a time, marijuana was listed in the witch’s handbook. (The Pharmacopoeia of the United States of America) It was a period when marijuana became popular for its recreational use and even went up against alcohol in the Prohibition era — although it lost miserably.
So, according to the US government, I’m supposed to believe that marijuana is more dangerous than alcohol. I’m supposed to believe marijuana has no medicinal value. I’m supposed to believe marijuana users are led astray into believing it’s harmless, and later get addicted and have “respiratory disease” because of it.
Many people still feel under attack by this propaganda. Marijuana views have changed since the 20th century due to the knowledge gained through scientific research and the internet.
The “Reefer Madness” approach to drug use has been quite the opposite of a successful strategy. People have realized that drugs aren’t the only reason for violence, addiction is a disease, and medical marijuana is safe. Viewing marijuana through a casual lens puts society in a better place. It allows people to see the drug in a positive light so they know how it can be properly used.
Historically the image of marijuana has been painted with a dark brush. Today, after more than fifty years of propaganda, citizens are finally seeing the truth behind cannabis and how it does not deserve the negative reputation that has been given to it for so long.
Marijuana can now be seen as a good thing in society. It helps many people suffering from ailments, is less toxic and harmful to the body than cigarettes or alcohol, and it just seems like a generally nice thing to do. I personally believe that marijuana should be legalized, even if it is not treated as alcohol or tobacco. Marijuana users are not the problem; they are people put into an unfortunate position. They do not want trouble from law enforcement and want to be left alone.
