HOW CAN WE BUILD OUR OWN RESILIENCE TO COVID-19?

The picture we’re still overwhelmingly presented with by the media is that Covid-19 presents an almost equal risk to all people.

There are cursory nods at ‘the elderly, vulnerable, and those with pre-existing conditions’ but — and especially in coverage of tragic outcomes in younger people — there is no detailed analysis of cause or the rarity of the exceptional stories.

However, it has become more and more clear over the past 18 months that those with unhealthy lifestyle characteristics, chronic disease risk factors and/or a confirmed diagnosis of one or more chronic conditions are at greatest risk for hospitalisation and death if infected with COVID-19.

Perhaps it’s time we learned to take responsibility for our own health so that we minimise the risks not only of covid-19 but other forms of illness too?

My guest tonight is Sam Feltham, founder and director of the non-profit Public Health Collaboration which is on a quest to radically change the UK’s entire approach to public health through diet, exercise and lifestyle and has as its goal becoming the go-to alternative to Public Health England and associated organisations.

Join me at 5pm (BST) when I’ll be exploring with Sam what needs to change, what we can do as individuals to boost our own metabolic health, and why he believes the Covid-19 response is fundamentally flawed.
