Investors Make Up Nearly 20% Of All Home Purchases In Canada

Investors account for 20% of all hoe purchases and 19% of mortgaged home purchases made in Canada over the past 7 years (BOC). But the figure only includes domestic buyers and those foreign buyers obtaining mortgages in Canada, meaning it could be even higher.

The remainder of home purchases were split between first-time homebuyers (50%) and repeat homebuyers (31%)

Although all three groups of buyers bought more homes during the pandemic, this growth was most prominent with investors.
