Ford 2N Oil Change, Carb Replacement, Step Plate Install | 1945 Ford 2N tractor restoration [Part 3]
Part 3 in this Ford 2N tractor restoration series involves replacing the carburetor, installing new step plates and brackets on the left and right side, and changing the oil and oil filter. The entire playlist on this tractor is linked below so check that out if you want more!

When I bought this tractor from a relative it came with a big box of spare and replacement parts, including the step plates and a new carburetor. The replacement carburetor, however, is complete junk. If I knew who the manufacturer was I would strongly advise against anyone purchasing that unit. Since I couldn’t use the new carb I robbed as many pieces as I could off of it and put them in the old carb, doing my best to refurbish it. I found a video from Rachel Gingell here on YouTube that goes into great detail on rebuilding a Ford Carburetor and I’ve linked it below if you need to watch it.

The step plate and bracket installation was pretty straightforward even if I did have to break out the sledgehammer to “persuade” those pegs back to where they needed to be. Eventually I may paint the whole tractor but for now I just wanted to step onto the tractor without feeling like the step was going to give way underneath me.
I went with a Wix oil filter (51010), 5 quarts of Shell Rotella T4 15W-40 (Derek says it’s got all the dinosaurs and essential nutrients), and 1 quart of Lucas Heavy Duty oil stabilizer (I read that it will help bring oil pressure up in these old engines). The Wix filter came with the required gasket; if you buy another brand make sure it comes with the gasket or that you pick it up from wherever you buy your parts. I replaced with oil plug gasket as well.
Coming up next we’ll be tackling the faulty hydraulic lift. Hopefully it’s something simple but I guess we won’t know until we dig into it! Be sure to subscribe if you’re enjoying these videos so you won’t miss the next one. Thanks for watching!
