It’s late April, now is the time to prepare beds for plant starts. The greenhouse is full so this weekend preparing every bed for spring planting is the best use of time. In a previous video you saw chop and drop with a flail mower to cut down cover crops.

In this video you’ll see how to terminate cover crops with shallow tillage. Each bed only has the level bed tilled, bunds and terrace structure is marked by a vegetative strip. Follow this method in temperate climates to protect from erosion, wind, and hot sun.

Preparing your spring garden beds this way doesn’t require back breaking work. With appropriate technology you can do this on a quarter acre, or twenty acres if you so desire. Terrace beds can be double reach, or 24’ wide depending on your land.
