are universal lifeline phone companies sexist?

the only time I believe I might have gotten approved for universal lifeline was when my roommate yelled at them, and he's male.
after me arguing with them for days about my qualifications.
finally my roommate gets fed up and yells in the background, "you either let her keep that device or send something she can pack it in already so she can return it!"
the next day I get an email saying I was approved WTF?!
