Testimony of André De Maere d’Aertrycke, Honorary Territorial Administrator. Experience in rural areas. 1952-1960.

André de Maere d'Aertrycke has everything to build a successful career in the Belgian Congo. His uncle and aunt had plantations in Katanga, and his father had been a regional official there until the Second World War, in Costermansstad, present-day Bukavu. In 1952, after his law studies and additional training, young André goes to Congo with his wife. He becomes assistant regional manager in the "brousse" in Beni, also in the Kivu region.
