That stump we treated? I’m gonna burn it.

We cut down a hideous bushy tree in our backyard and we’re tired of looking at the leftovers. Fire will fix that right up.

When we bought our farm last year there was a large tree (we believe it was a privet) growing in a planter box right off our back patio. With skinny trunks growing every direction it was a hassle to fell and even worse to clean up, but when all was said and done all we were left with was a few stumps. We treated the stumps with a herbicide to prevent any regrowth and that worked wonderfully.

Over the course of the summer this planter box grew up with grasses and weeds (I hate weedeating) and now that the stump is toast we’re going to start burning it out. Burning a stump is a tedious process and if you’re not willing to spend a lot of time in prep it will take quite a few burnings to completely remove the stump. Or you could rent a stump grinder. But I don’t want to spend money renting a stump grinder and I would rather just light a few fires in the box this winter than spend a ton of time prepping the stump for one thorough burn. Having a little fire in the backyard will also take care of the overgrown grasses and weeds I ignored all summer.
