India: Kiev shows 'more understanding' towards Crimea and Donbass issues - Lavrov

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Ukraine has come closer to terms with Russia's position regarding Crimea and Donbass issues, speaking at a briefing in New Delhi on Friday. "We've also seen a lot more understanding of reality. I'm referring to the situation with Crimea and Donbass. But as for potential further contacts, we are discussing it now, it will be announced [soon]," Lavrov commented recent round of peace talks between Moscow and Kiev in Turkey. He also explained the Russian gas supply offer to Western countries as a fair ruble-based gas payment arrangement. "We cannot use the old scheme because, as I say, they pay us with their currency and then arrest our accounts. It's like a gold fever in the United States at some point. When the country was created by those who fled from Europe, because they were wanted by lawyers, as far as I recall. So, the scheme which has been presented is an honest scheme. It allows us to get the payment eventually in rubles and that was the original goal," he added. Lavrov arrived in India from China, where he took part in the Third Foreign Ministers' Meeting Among the Neighboring Countries of Afghanistan on Thursday.
