Baby Goats, WHEN?? Fall Breeding Season 2021

You would think that breeding season for the goat herd would be nearly over and we’d be preparing for babies in about three more months, but it’s looking like we’re going to be waiting a little longer for one or two girls. Also recapping the December 2021 Western Kentucky tornado event, how it impacted our community and our families, and what you can do to help.

You can donate to the Western Kentucky Tornado Relief Fund here: https://secure.kentucky.gov/formservices/Finance/WKYRelief

Many individual communities have urgent needs as well. Contact local emergency management personnel to find out what items – like shampoo, blankets, diapers, etc. – are needed and where they can be donated. The Kentucky towns of Bremen and Mayfield are near and dear to our hearts, but Benton, Eddyville, Princeton, and Dawson Springs were greatly impacted as well.

Thank you and God bless.

There’s always work to be done around the farm but today we’re taking a minute to slow down and really appreciate what we have. On Friday, December 10 and Saturday, December 11, much of our Western Kentucky home was ravaged by tornadoes and severe weather. Our farm was not impacted directly by the storms and our families are safe, but many narrowly escaped devastation. We hope to use whatever platform we have to promote recovery efforts and we appreciate your help in the matter.

Matthew 6 – Do Not Worry
25 “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?
28 “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; 29 and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not [l]arrayed like one of these. 30 Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

We started off the day working on a problem light bulb in the barn. I hope to rewire the whole barn this winter because right now there are more problems than what we’d like, but this is a good building and we’re thankful to have it.

Benji, our buck goat, has been tending to his does for a couple of months now and we’re expecting our first round of kids in March 2022. Violet gave us four kids earlier this year and we’re hoping for another batch of healthy kids this time as well. Brandi has been bred once and Annie, her doeling, has not been bred yet. Where Violet is very experienced, they are not quite there yet, so if it takes a bit longer for them that’s understandable. But it’s been quite a while since we’ve had any does in milk and Megan is eager to get back in the milking business!

Thank you so much for spending your time with us. See y’all again soon!
