The worst day of my life // Loss, Grief, and Trusting in God {Devotional}

2 years ago

In his epistle to the Romans, chapter 8 verse 28, Paul the Apostle writes “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”

My mom and dad passed away eight years ago. I was 20 years old and while I was old enough to care for myself up to that point in my life I never had to. It’s a shocking feeling to walk back into your home, the house you grew up in, and the two figures that had always been there are suddenly no longer around.

God knew what He was doing. Even to this day I’m not quite sure the “why”, but I’m certain that it’s in His hands. I know that because that’s what He tells us in His Word. I grew up in a Christian home and as a teenager I accepted Christ as my Savior, but in the years since my relationship with Him has grown.

I’m not making this video to prove a point about how great I am or how tough I can be when the road gets rocky because none of that is true. For the better part of a week this time of year I turn into a basket case. I am who I am because of who God is, because I put my faith and trust in Him to lead me through the hard times.

Spend time in prayer and lean on God, in the good times and in the bad. Surround yourself with people who you want in your foxhole when things get bad. And if you’re struggling, reach out. You aren’t alone, I can promise you that.

Thank you for watching this video. Your support truly means the world to my family and me.
