This Is How JA MORANT Gets Cleared For TAKEOFF

Check out this play for Ja Morant. On the handoff he’s going to continue to curl along the baseline. At the same time we have a double screen for Dillon Brooks here to start things off.
But you can clearly see that this is the decoy, as both Anderson and Adams will move over to screen again for Morant who’s already picking up some speed.
So by the time he comes off of the second screen he as the ball in his hands and the defender behind him, so he’s basically cleared for take off. There is help under the rim, but Ja flies past him and finishes with the scoop layup.
So as we take a look at this quick little action again, let me show you a few more interesting examples of winning plays from last night’s games. What up everybody, my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it.

First we got Mikal Bridges, and notice the slight push to move his defender in line with Ayton. So now if Monk tries to go under, Bridges will come out here at the three point line and there will be no time for Monk to recover on this shot. But since he’s trailing behind him in this example, Bridges goes to the basket, Lebron makes the proper rotation to protect the rim, and Mikal makes the extra pass to the wide open Jae Crowder who knocks down this corner 3. With the Phoenix Suns it’s always pick your poison, and funny enough, it seems to end badly regardless of what you pick.
Booker also got an assist off of a screen by the big man. Watch him go slow and steady, hopping his way through this crack here. But instead of continuing forward, he comes back to the corner 3, and Ayton holds off Westbrook. So now, Stanley Johnson has to switch there, which leaves a favorable matchup for Phoenix under the basket. And Booker doesn’t waste any time, the lob and the dunk.
Again, check out how simple this looks yet it is so effective.
And speaking of simple yet effective, this is the best example of that. On the pass, Maxey does a routine cut and if he doesn’t get the ball here, he is supposed to clear out in the corner.
That’s basic basketball principles. But as his defender is going through the motions, Maxey catches him by surprise by cutting back and setting a back screen on Bamba.
So now you can see Tobias Harris has a much smaller guy on him right at the rim, and he’s able to shoot over and get the bucket.
So this is a quick lesson, always be alert and pay attention on defense. Otherwise, the result is an easy basket.
Bogdanovic did a similar thing last night. As we stop it right here, this looks like a double screen for Galinari, so you can see that his man is ready to get going with him. But instead, Bogie is the one who turns the other way, and now we have a double screen for him. He gets it on the handoff with Buddy Hield trailing him, and Bogdanovic knows how to work this situation so he stops on a dime, getting the contact mid air, shoots and hits plus the foul.
