Being a Steward When You Monetize Attention

A behind-the-scenes look at how time is monetized by listeners, viewers, and readers. How you will be incentivized to get as much attention as possible, but that takes away from marketing results.

The 1,000 visitor measure stimulates hosting platforms to share your videos, especially if those views come in the first 48 hours of your video. Most platforms work like this because they earn money by distraction.

You, the content provider, is enrolled to attract visitors, keep them on the website, and let the platform serve advertising to them. The theme of your content is used in a profile to better understand the visitor.

In a recent podcast for Inside Strategic Relations, I revealed how even I monetize the listener's attention; here's the episode, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dVAYHYw0pvA

The truth is our modern world is built on monetizing other people's time. And if you let this happen to you, it will distract you from the outcomes you desire.

However, as marketers, copywriters, and business development professionals, you need prospects' attention to help them solve problems. When you create content, it's about helping the listener take the next step.

To do this, you may have to educate them about a problem, show them how others have addressed it, and then reveal it to them in a better way. If their situation had an easy solution, they still wouldn't have a problem.

The key is NOT to distract or waste your listener's time (or reader.) You must be a good steward of that time, a guide, helping them on their journey to a meaningful solution.
