In the Hall of Maat

I have been watching the new Moon Knight series on Disney+ and set out to write a related song. My research took a different turn and I have instead tried to write a catalogue song for the 42 Assessors of Maat that form part of the 'Weighing of the Heart' in the Egyptian afterlife:

I suspect the fact that it is Easter, and that I am a few days into a covid infection helped with the selection of material. It is interesting that this Papyrus of Ani from 1250 BCE pre-dates Christianity and the ideas certainly predate both Mosaic and Islamic law. The concepts of sin and judgement after death are at the core of Western religion, but here they are spelled out over 3000 years ago in Egypt.

As a result of covid, nearly 1 million people in the US alone have found out whether the crocodile/lion/hippo goddess, Ammit, gets to eat their heart.
