UK announces controversial plan to send asylum-seekers to Rwanda

In a bid to deter asylum seekers from being smuggled into Britain, Prime Minister Boris Johnson says asylum seekers will be instead sent to Rwanda, one of the world's poorest nations.

Revamping immigration has been on the Tories' to-do list for years, while Johnson himself needs a victory. He's embroiled in a COVID-19 party scandal as the first British prime minister to have been found breaking the law while in office.
