Making a Hammer out of Firewood - Woodworking Mallet

This isn't the greatest woodworking mallet out there, but this ia a fun project that doesn't take a lot of tools, and is a great way to turn some scraps or some firewood into a useful tool. And a little mallet or hammer like this looks pretty nice too.

The oil soak does add some weight, and I suppose it helps with preserving the wood. I haven't had any issues with my original hammer, and it has stood up to more abuse than I thought a block of elm would survive.
