It's an important port city in Southern Europe and is the center of the economy in Northern Greece. It's located on the Aegean Sea and furthermore has about 1 million people living in its metropolitan area.

Street life and traffic can be quite hectic in Thessaloniki we have noticed. This is largely due to how densely populated it is and the lack of large scale urban transportation. There is no metro or tram, just buses and taxis. A metro system has been under construction for almost 15 years however, and it's safe to say that it's much needed.
