It is well established across the scholarly literature that crisis situations are often accompanied by significant levels of propaganda and censorship, heightened emotions and the relative ease with which authorities can dictate the contours of public and political debate.

We have certainly witnessed this throughout the response to Covid-19 and perhaps we are now witnessing the same within the context of war.

To help us to assess the role of propaganda and the risks of bouncing from one crisis to the next, we are joined by Dr Piers Robinson, political scientist and co-director of the Organisation for Propaganda Studies. His research focuses upon communication, media and world politics, with a specialism in the role of propaganda with conflict and war.

During this episode we examine how the war may be instrumentalized by authorities in order to take attention away from the issues that surfaced with respect to COVID-19 and serve as a new distraction from the political and economic agendas that some analysts have been warning us about.
