Imposter syndrome is a very real problem that can ruin your confidence and prevent you from achieving your goals.

There is also that nagging voice in your head that tells you you're not good enough, that you're a fraud, and that any minute now someone is going to realize you're not really who you say you are.

What is Imposter Syndrome?
Imposter syndrome is the belief that you are not as competent as others perceive you to be. This can manifest itself in many different ways but often manifests as imposter syndrome sufferers second-guessing themselves, abilities, and accomplishments.

Imposter syndrome is the feeling of inadequacy or fraudulence despite evidence to the contrary. It is often characterized by impostor thoughts, such as "I'm not good enough," "I'll be found out," or "I don't deserve this."
It affects everyone at one time or another in their careers, friendships, and family lives. It tears at our confidence to where second-guessing ourselves becomes natural.

How does imposter syndrome develop?
There are a few different ways imposter syndrome can develop. For some, it might be due to early life experiences, such as being told they were "stupid" or not good enough. It leads to thoughts such as: "I'll be found out," or "I don't deserve this."

For others, it might be the result of perfectionism that was never realistically achievable. And for others still, imposter syndrome might be the result of a traumatic event or series of events that led to a loss of confidence.

Whatever the cause, these impostor thoughts can become a self-fulfilling prophecy, causing us to doubt our abilities and achievements. Imposter syndrome can also lead to anxiety, depression, and social isolation.
