The Consumer Price index (or CPI) increased by 8.5%, beating market expectations of 8.4% and also exceeding the previous value of 7.9%. This is the fastest growth rate, since December 1981.
New York state Lt. Gov. Brian Benjamin is charged with public corruption. Federal prosecutors allege he obtained campaign contributions through his official authority to secure funding for a nonprofit organization.

As Joe Biden met with Indian Prime Minister Modi, told him that it was not in India's interest to "accelerate or increase" its oil purchases from Russia, and that it could prevent the United States from stopping the war in Ukraine. Modi, however, does not accept this argument.
