The space program has brought hundreds of innovations to your daily life. You may not even realize all of them, but your life would be very different if you didn’t have them. Dr. Donoviel describes how space is a wonderful laboratory to study the human body and that by figuring out how to detect and prevent medical conditions from happening in space, we are making incredible insights as to how to keep humans healthy here on Earth. Dorit Donoviel, Ph.D., serves as Director for the Translational Research Institute for Space Health (TRISH), a NASA-funded cooperative agreement with a consortium led by Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) in Houston, TX and includes the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, CA and Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, MA. TRISH finds, funds and facilitates disruptive human health and performance solutions for astronauts traveling in deep space. She is also an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Chemical Biology and the Center for Space Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, where she lectures to and mentors trainees. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
