30 years before the Phantom Menace takes place, a battle between a sith lord and jedi knight leaves both the sith lord and a bystander dead. 2 years later the son of the victim, Vasola Xor, seeks revenge on all jedi.

The jedi council receives a distress signal but vote against intervening. Count Dooku, who at this point is still a jedi, sends a young Qui-Gon Jinn to investigate, unbeknownst to the council.
