Quickie: The Iron Law of Oligarchy

The Iron Law of Oligarchy says that in any democracy, the eventual rule by the elite is as inevitable as an iron law. No sufficiently complex system can function as a direct democracy, and as a result, power will get delegated to individuals within that group--elected or otherwise.

They are NOT the servants of the masses. They control the power structures, and they exercise so much control over communications channels that they can marginalize opposition and effectively turn it into a religion.

The only solution ever found is bottom-up decentralization.
